John’s Story*

It has been a fulfilling and enriching experience to be able to work with my mentor Patrick Ow as part of the Young Professionals Mentoring Program. Sharing his experience in the public sector, Patrick has provided me with a lot of insight and wisdom which has influenced my critical thinking and career perspective.

One of the many highlights from this mentoring experience has been that Patrick has helped me develop my five-year career plan and yearly goals. Through a feedback loop process, Patrick has helped me to refine my goal-setting and workshopped action items to ensure the successful delivery of my goals.

A key lesson that I have learnt is to always be opportunistic in bridging my skills gap and to always understand ‘the why’ of my career aspirations.

I am thankful of Patrick for his valuable time and commitment to ensure I perform the best of my abilities, make the most of my professional career and in the process to learn, adapt and grow as an individual.
